Project Details

A special school project for some very special kids was the upgrade of their dedicated playground area at William Bayldon Primary.  The old, failing and uninspiring soft-fall playground covering and fixtures were removed, a new properly-draining concrete slab substrate was poured and then topped with a colourful, swirling patterned layer of new rubber-crumb softfall.  Along the front edge of the playground a new concrete sleeper garden bed was laid to provide an attractive and appealing final touch to the play area.  The result is a wonderful, safe, modern and inviting playground area that no longer collects water, which the kids and the staff alike love.  Another aspect of the project involved refreshing and re-edging an existing adjacent and neglected pine log garden area, and turning it into another fun and tactile recreation space for the students.

It’s important to note that on this project all removed materials were effectively recycled:  The old soft-fall has been redeployed as ground matting at a nearby horse stable, spoil and crusher-dust refuse was reused on another civil project, redundant playground equipment has been re-homed in a couple of local backyards, and the pine logs and vegetation removed from the old garden chipped up for mulch.
